Shared supportive housing is a living arrangement where individuals share a home or apartment while receiving support services that help maintain housing stability and promote independence. It provides a safe, community-based environment for individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, or other barriers to stable housing.
Eligibility requirements vary by program. In general, individuals experiencing homelessness, those with mental health challenges, substance use disorder, or other circumstances affecting their ability to maintain housing may qualify.
Support may include case management, counseling, life skills training, resource navigation (benefits, healthcare, providers), social/community integration activities and coordination with external agencies.
Roommates are matched based on compatibility, lifestyle preferences, support needs, and other factors to ensure a comfortable shared living experience. Assessments and interviews help determine best fit.
Yes. Shared supportive housing is designed to be affordable. Rent is typically based on income or set at a reasonable program rate. Some participants may qualify for subsidies or vouchers to offset costs.
Amenities may vary, but commonly include furnished rooms, shared living spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, outdoor spaces, utilities included, and access to onsite or nearby supportive services.
Applications may be submitted online or through referral partners such as community agencies, hospitals, case workers, or social service organizations. Applicants may be required to complete an intake assessment, provide documentation, and participate in screening interviews.
